I’m Nic, a Brazilian-American audio producer and sound designer interested in sound-rich narrative storytelling.

 

Currently pursuing an MFA in Literary Reportage at New York University’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. Previously an associate producer with NPR’s Enterprise Storytelling Unit, home of the acclaimed podcasts Invisibilia, Rough Translation, Embedded, and Throughline. Alum of Salt Institute for Documentary Studies at the Maine College of Art & Design. Before that, I was a student at Brandeis University where I studied health policy, psychology, and science.

  • 3-part limited series about a Black cheerleading team from Buffalo NY, and how they navigated the aftermath of the racist massacre at the Tops grocery store in May of 2022.

  • A collaboration with NPRs Investigations team, Taking Cover is the story of the worst marine-on-marine friendly fire of modern history, and why it was covered up.

  • Helped with production and contributed original scoring/sound design for the two-part series on reproductive health and abortion pills in Ukraine, Under the Counter and The Handoff.

  • The Last Cup is a dual-language collaboration between NPR and Futuro Media, a mini-series about Lionel Messi’s journey as a soccer player and immigrant. In 2023 it was shortlisted on the NY Festivals Radio Awards in the Sports Podcast category.

  • Invisibilia’s final season was about power, control, and freedom. Check out this article based on cutting-room-floor tape with researcher Venssa Bohns. In 2023, the episode Therapy Ghostbusters was honored with the Carolyn C. Mattingly Award for Mental Health Reporting.
